An ode to Tricia Ryan
This piece of jewellery is made with my grandmother in mind. I was incredibly close to her, and she passed away in 2024. The reason this piece is meaningful, is because she had silver miraculous medals everywhere. Anytime someone in the family was travelling, moving house, new job, new car, or anything out of the ordinary, she insisted we take one. She had them scattered around the house and her car, and in her handbag. They always make me think of her. These pieces are not miraculous medals, but bare a similarity to them.
While there is a religious association with miraculous medals. they were created by Saint Catherine Labouré in the 1830's, and are associated with the Virgin Mary. However, my Nana handed them out to us as charms of protection and luck, and this is the message I intend to pass on. This pendant carries that message perfectly.
These medals are a sort of Irish cultural symbol - I think that there were many Irish 'mammies' and grandmothers handing them out. To me they just remind me of my typical Irish grandmother. They are a beautiful symbol.
This beautiful necklace comes in silver and in gold, and can be layered or worn on it's own.
